Memorable Moments in Salzburg's Old Town
Sternbräu is a unique interplay of centuries-old history and contemporary architecture, Austrian cuisine with regional character, the Sternbier available exclusively at Sternbräu, and much more.
Look forward to enjoyable hours with Salzburg delicacies, diverse beer specialties, and fine wines in our stylish parlors and halls. Our kitchen, led by Michael Pratter, stands for traditional Austrian dishes, prepared authentically and with care. We place particular emphasis on high-quality and regional ingredients. After a 53-year break, our Sternbier was revived in 2008 and is now brewed in organic quality by Stiegl Brewery Salzburg exclusively for Sternbräu.

A Look Back at the
History of Our House.
The exact hour of our establishment's birth lies, as is so often the case with historical buildings, in the dark. Our house chronicle presumably dates back to the Middle Ages.
It is confirmed that there were numerous small breweries in the city of Salzburg in the late 16th century. The name "Sternbräu" as a separate brewery with a guesthouse was first mentioned in 1542. That is why we write "Since 1542" today, although the history of our house may go back even further. Just about 100 meters from Sternbräu, the Stiegl Brewery was founded in 1492. Since 2025, a close collaboration has reunited us: Our Sternbier and other beer specialties, as well as our lemonades, now come from the Salzburg private brewery Stiegl.
The star as the guild sign of brewers, by the way, was first documented in 1425. It can still often be seen today in Franconian house breweries. The star as a striking symbol of Sternbräu stems from this centuries-old tradition.
